Merino wool felt picture of an elephant silhouette on a warm yellow through to deep red gradated background.
This artwork is made using a combination of wet and needle felting techniques.
Due to the wet felting process it is one of a kind and no two designs are ever identical.
The background is wet felted. It is a process that involves laying down multiple layers of raw un-spun merino wool, which is then moistened and repeatedly rolled until all the wool fibres mesh or 'felt' together. I don’t completely felt the wool so that individual fibres are still visible and add texture to the image. Once dry I added the elements of the elephant (wet felted pieces of different colours) via needle felting and hand sewed beaded detail.
I love the warm blended background colours and uneven natural edges.
It is in a 15mm wide, 33mm deep black box frame with a white mount. The frame measures 285mm by 285mm (internal measurement) and the visible felt is 200mm by 210mm.
All measurements are approximate.
This picture comes complete in a simple glass fronted box frame that can be hung.
