Merino wool felt picture of a fat bumblebee flying.
This artwork is made using a combination of wet and needle felting techniques.
Due to the wet felting process it is one of a kind and no two designs are ever identical.
The background is wet felted. It is a process that involves laying down multiple layers of raw un-spun merino wool, which is then moistened and repeatedly rolled until all the wool fibres mesh or 'felt' together. I don’t completely felt the wool so that individual fibres are still visible and add texture to the image. Once dry I added the elements of the bee (wet felted pieces of different colours) via needle felting.
I love the blended background colours, uneven natural edges and delicate appearance of the bee’s wings.
It is in a 15mm wide, 33mm deep black box frame with a white mount. The frame measures 240mm by 240mm (internal measurement) and the visible felt is 180mm by 180mm.
All measurements are approximate.
This picture comes complete in a simple glass fronted box frame that can be hung.
