Tourmaline has been used for a long time, but has mostly been confused with other gemstones due to its wide variety of colours - green with emeralds, red with ruby etc.
It was only in the 1800's that scientists recognised Tourmaline as a distinct mineral species.
Tourmaline occurs in more colours and colour-combinations than any other group of minerals.
Green Tourmaline is associated with the Zodiac sign Leo, and the month of August as an alternative to the traditional birthstone of Peridot.
Leo is ruled by the Sun and the element Fire.
For this necklace, I have chosen three Swarovski crystals, in 'peridot', 'fire opal' and 'jonquil', to sit alongside the Tourmaline, to represent Leo's traditional birthstone, Fire and The Sun.

Full description
This elegant and sparkly necklace features rough cut rectangles of mixed Tourmaline in shades of semi-translucent amber and green, separated by tiny faceted Tourmaline beads and set with trios of sparkly Swarovski crystals in the colours 'peridot', 'fire opal' and 'jonquil'.
The Tourmaline rectangles are 5-7mm x 4-5mm and have a rustic quality that contrasts nicely with the high polish of the Hematite and precision cut of the Swarovski bicones.
The necklace continues with tubes and rounds of Hematite, and culminates in an easy-to-fasten, Tibetan rose toggle clasp with a gold finish.
The clasp is nickel and lead free.
This necklace measures approximately 16.5 inches (42cm).
Your necklace will be delivered by 1st class post, wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
