Item details
Hares have fascinated artists and mankind for centuries. They appear on Greek vases, in medieval paintings, Durer’s famous young hare from 1502, in Mad Hatter’s tea parties, the list goes on. In many cultures they are associated with the moon, or with hunting.
For me, it’s a combination of their elegant ears and limbs, and the huge, almost oversized eye that make them such a beguiling subject.
In this painting I have tried to capture the power and speed of the animal as it tears through a spring meadow.
