Inspiration

I have a fascination for all the Corvid family. The raven of course is the most majestic of all and I have always wanted to paint one.
I wanted to give it a Gothic feel like an illustration for the famous raven poem by Edger Allen Poe.
They also feature prominently in myths and legends. Most famously as the companions of the Norse God Odin who sacrificed an eye for wisdom and relied upon his two ravens Huginn and Muninn. Their names mean ' thought' and 'memory'.
Of course in this country they are the guardians of the Tower of London. Legend has it that the kingdom will fall if the six ravens ever leave the fortress!
They can be found in the high Shropshire Hills.
