Amethyst is the birthstone for Aquarius and February.
It is also the stone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversary.
St Valentine is said to have worn an amethyst ring engraved with a cupid to enable soldiers to recognise him.
He would arrange secret marriages, as they were forbidden to wed by Emperor Claudius 11, who believed an unmarried man made a better soldier.

Glittering, romantic earrings in pale pink and shades of purple.
The Swarovski crystal 10mm hearts are in the colour "amethyst" with an Aurora Borealis coating on the reverse to give extra sparkle.
They hang below a 6mm amethyst bead, two 4mm frosted rose quartz beads and two 4mm Swarovski "light amethyst" bicones.
The ear-wires are gold vermeil.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with gold, and the wires are stamped "925".
These drop earrings measure approximately 1.75 inches (4cm).
Presented in a small organza gift bag.
