I was just starting out on my Pyrography journey when I made this piece..I was looking for images to use that weren't covered by copyright and not having many of my own to use I asked a friend and local photographer if I could use his image to which he gladly agreed. It turned out to be one of my favourite pieces. I have struggled to let go of this one but I must make room for more and so it is time to fly the nest

Full description

Pyrography, fire art, woodburning, artistic arsonry. all terms used to describe one of the oldest art forms in the world. A technique of burning an image into wood, leather, fabric, paper etc.

I use a professional heated pen to scorch the wood, building up the layers to get depth and darkness.

This piece was inspired by a photo taken from a fantastic local photographer, Craig Travis at Travis Studios. (you should definitely check out his work, it's impeccable) of a jackdaw eating a piece of bagel in his garden.

as you can see from the progress photos I swapped out the bagel for a real willow twig, I also gently carved out the eye and placed in a ring of coloured copper wire before sealing the wood.

Approximately 14-16 hours of work went into this beautiful Jackdaw Pyrography piece.

Size is approximately 35cm X 17cm and 6cm thick (piece is currently in my studio, will get proper measurements later)
