I am part of a community wood firing group. We only fire the kiln about 4 times a year and the pots we get out of the firing feel really special.
The firing takes about 12 hours, but that is the most fun bit really. There is lots of preparation time required for the wood, put wadding on each pot so it doesn't stick to the shelf and then a lot of time carefully packing.
Wood firing is very different to using an electric kiln. If you can imagine part of the skill is getting the flame to travel all the way through the pots. The fire carries ash with it and this can make the clay body a lovely colour and shine. The pots are also reduced and so the glaze and clay are chemically changed, I can not recreate this magic in my electric kiln, or predict the outcome. We have celebrated the results and cried!

A beautiful handmade pottery thrown vase made on my potter's wheel. This vase is made from stoneware which means it is very durable. The clay gives a biscuit speckled colour.
The vase is first thrown then left until it is leather hard, then turned and I add my makers mark. Once dry it is bisque fired then glazed and fired a second time in this case a wood fired kiln.
All glazes are lead free.
This glaze has a celadon green glaze. It crackles giving a wonderful effect. The vase is small and very very cute! Perfect to show of a rose or single small stem or just as a decorative object.
Dimensions:
Height about 11 cm
Diameter of hole about 1.5 cm
Diameter at widest point about 9 cm
All my pottery is made by me in small batches. There may be variations in size, colour and shape making each piece delightfully unique.
This is a listing for 1 vase.
