I spotted this chunk of elm burr at a local wood yard when shopping for material for another project.
Having previously made a wall clock for my house from a similar burr, I knew that the wood has a fantastic grain pattern, and the piece has a gnarly shape which lends itself to a clock.
The piece was also quite thick, allowing me to cut it into two good pieces to make a pair of clocks. This is the larger piece of the two.
Once sanded and finished, the wonderful patterns in the burr really show through.

Wood is a natural product that continues to move. It moves with the seasons, and in modern times, moves with the central heating! When making things from wood, I try and allow for the movement when designing. But it doesn't always work....so if a small crack appears, it's just the wood doing it's thing.
Please note that if your order is being posted outside mainland UK, you (or the recipient) may have to pay customs or VAT charges and a handling fee. The seller is not responsible for any charges or fees that may incur.
Full description
This clock is one of a pair made from a piece of an elm burr.
It is made as a free standing clock, not for hanging. The base of the clock is covered with felt to protect the surface it is placed on.
The clock mechanism is set into the back of the piece, with a pair of gold coloured hands.
The face is made from contrasting dots of wood, with the hours for 12, 3, 6 and 9 made from larger dots than the rest.
The clock is finished with a danish oil and the front face is also waxed.
The approximate overall size is 270mm wide, 160mm high, 50mm deep.
The clock takes an AA battery.
