This brooch features a glimpse of the forest floor. Ferns abound in the springtime. They erupt out of the ground as thick stems, tightly coiled in spiral shapes that echo ammonite fossils. Unlike fossils, ferns are alive, verdant and gradually they unfold into the feathery broad-leafed plants that inhabit forest floors. This brooch shows that one fern has been trodden into the ground to form an impression in the earth as another, living fern unfurls above it. Blossom petals are scattered on the earth and tiny blue speedwell flowers crop up here and there.
This brooch is made with polymer clay, pastel accents, acrylic paint and a metal brooch back.
The brooch measures 7cm length and 5cm width
I love the hidden world that is the forest floor. We walk on it without paying much attention. However there are many treasures to be found, minature ecosystems and clues as to who inhabits the forest.
