Full description
This is a large (measuring roughly 10" across) and stunning yew platter. Incorporating not just the vibrant orange heartwood but also cream sapwood, this would make an eye-catching centrepiece. Finished with food safe pure tung oil, it could also be used to serve cold meets, cheeses, or any other snack.
It has significant weight to it and looks just as good standing upright on the mantelpiece as it does in the middle of the table.
Made from one solid piece of yew, I first used traditional turning tools to create the curved outside. Flipping the piece around and mounting it in the chuck, I used a bowl gouge to hollow out the middle, creating an even wall thickness. After sanding, it received multiple coats of hard-wearing and food-safe tung oil.
Care instructions: do not submerge, do not put in dishwasher. Wipe with damp cloth. As needed, use wood wax to restore shine.
Note - due to the grain of the wood, each piece may have minor imperfections. However, this makes each one unique!
