I made a series of butterfly paintings during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. I wanted to create a collection of brightly coloured butterflies, one for each colour of the rainbow. This red Scarlet Mormon butterfly was one of the last, and I concentrated on using a limited colour palette to ensure that the colours stayed bright and vibrant.
This painting looks particularly good when grouped with the Yellow Swallowtail butterfly and the Blue Oakwing butterfly paintings from the same series.

Representing the colour Red in my Rainbow Butterfly series of watercolour paintings is the Scarlet Mormon Butterfly. This giclee print has been produced from my original watercolour painting which was created in 2020.
Slightly gothic in its appearance, the print shows off the butterfly's striking wing colour.
This painting has been professionally printed on high-quality, archival standard, 100% cotton mould made paper with archival inks.
