Full description
This attractive twist-pen is hand made from a piece of yew wood. The wood came from a 400 year old tree that sadly had to be removed as it had become dangerous after a lighting strike about 10 years ago. Yew is an interesting wood to work with as the colours vary between deep red-brown or black to a light tan, and it polishes to a beautiful finish. The wood I used for this pen has a dark tan and near black grain, and I have turned the two barrels to form a “double-cone”, with the narrow tapers set to the centre, top and tip. The widest part of the “cones” are set towards the centre-band of the pen, giving it an usual and very "art deco" appearance with simple, elegant lines. The twist mechanism is held within the centre of the pen, and the top half is rotated to propel the writing nib which has a black ink refill. The metal tip, centre-band, pocket clip and top finial have a gold finish complimenting the wood beautifully. The pen uses a Cross refill, widely available from any stationers store. To change the refill, you simply pull the two halves of the pen apart and unscrew the refill - there are no springs to loose with this pen. The pen is aproximately 130mm long and 15mm at its widest.
