As with most of my embroidery, this piece started with the threads - they're hand dyed by the lovely Clare from Hope Jacare up in sunny Scotland, and the colours just made me think of Monet's Garden at Giverny (a frequent inspiration - have a look at my blog at www.theindecisivebeader.com to see the huge necklace I made a few years back using the same inspiration). I added a few plain colours of cotton perle to Claire's incredible space dyed slik threads (the green and magenta), laid down a base of horizontal and vertical satin stitch, and then went to town on the french knots to create an impressionistic textured abstract landscape. A really enjoyable piece to stitch and wear.
