Rene Magritte’s Son of man painting (man with apple covering face). The painting signifies our Military veterans with PTSD. Some in our communities put more stock in the mental health struggles of a celebrity from a reality show on TV rather than our veterans of conflict. Its almost like there is an opinion that a veteran knew what they were getting in to when they joined the forces so having PTSD is an occupational hazard. This is bull….. and my painting hopefully addresses this issue.

I wanted to paint a large canvas so this is one of the biggest I’d done at this point.

It might enlighten you to know that he does really exist and is an ex-member of the Special Forces and FCO. He is also very poorly and has attempted to take his own life due to the unbearable symptoms of ill mental health.

Full description

This is a large acrylic painting in the style of Rene Magritte’s Son of man painting. I have replaced the apple with a grenade and the man is replaced with a military veteran, damaged by PTSD.

I like to update old classic paintings with a new angle and see how the public like the juxtaposition of old and new.

The veteran that I painted is real, his medals are real and his PTSD is very real.

It’s not the most comfortable painting to look at or even own but if art was as easy to enjoy as this, everyone would be doing it.

The painting is quite big so the packaging will cost a little more.

The size is 18 inches by 14 inches which is 457 x 356 in millimetres. It’s depth is 5mm and it is painted on a Winsor and Newton Artists’ canvas board.

The painting has not been varnished and is satin in appearance.
