For many years I taught a residential quilting course once a year in a villa in a Spanish valley; I absolutely loved being out there in the Mediterranean sunshine. In the early evenings, between the day's teaching and supper, some of us would go for long walks on the footpaths around the hills, scrambling among the meadow flowers and the enjoying the scent of wild herbs. Another great delight was watching the large iridescent dragonflies which would come and hover over the swimming pool at the back of the house. This design reminds me of those restful summer days in the sunshine.

In this pretty wall hanging, an exotic dragonfly darts above a restful waterfall.
I've stitched this piece in a colour-scheme of peach, purple, blue and turquoise-green, picking up the colours in the striking Tiffany-print fabric I've used for the borders. Dark blue flower-buds with a touch of gold are growing the garden in the foreground.
The panel is created in stained glass patchwork, with each patch of fabric set off by an outline of black bias binding, creating a classic Art Nouveau effect. This effect is enhanced by the lines of black machine satin stitch that create the flowing lines of the waterfall, and the vein pattern on the dragonfly's wings.
Several of the coloured fabrics have a gold overprinting for extra richness, and the fabric I've used for the wings has a slight touch of glitter. The heart-shaped cornerpieces feature a blue-green flower-and-stripe print, and they also have a dusting of gold.
Two shiny peach-coloured beads create the perfect finishing touch for the dragonfly eyes, and the whole panel is backed and bound in plain navy blue, embellished with a decorative machine stitch.
A hidden casing at the top back of the quilt will hold your own batten/hanging pole.
The quilt will be sent to you cushioned with reusable bubble-wrap, and packed into a large recyclable jiffy bag. Hanging pole and fixings are not included.
