Hearts, birds and flowers are a classic mix in the folk art of many countries; this pretty design had a bit of a Scandinavian feel, with its delicate colours and simple folksy motifs. You can see more of these broderie persé, or fussy-cut, designs in the rest of the Garlands Collection in my shop.

A perfect engagement, wedding or anniversary present; a heart-shaped garland of flowers, leaves, birds and butterflies!
I’ve used a technique called fussy-cutting, or broderie persé, to create this gentle folk-art design in mid-pastel colours. The technique involves cutting motifs out of printed fabrics, then reassembling them into a new design.
Once I'd fused lots of coloured flowers in a heart design onto the polka-dot background, I topped each side of the heart with a bird and butterfly motif. I then added a border in a pretty little flower-print fabric which picks up the colours in the garland.
Next, I quilted by machine across the whole design in straight lines to create a random checkerboard effect, using a variegated thread in pastel colours. The quilt is backed in pale green, and the edge is bound in a maroon, embellished with a wavy decorative stitch.
A hidden casing at the top back will hold your own batten/hanging pole.
The quilt will be sent to you cushioned with reusable bubble-wrap, and packed into a large recyclable jiffy bag. Hanging pole and fixings are not included.
