The crocheted jute washing up scrubbies I make for myself are now coming to the end of their life after 3-4 months! The thicker cleaning scrubbies still have plenty of life left in them after 18 months.

The jute scrubbies are crocheted in 3 sizes: the thinnest size is best for washing up, as it gets inside mugs easily. The thickest size is best for cleaning and the middle size can be used for either task. The crochet corrugated effect allows for efficient cleaning.

Jute is a natural fibre, grown using rain water, with little if any pesticide/fertiliser use.

The scrubbies are approximately 8cm by 10 cm and 9cm by 8cm.

I wash at 60c. Allow the scrubby to dry after washing and use. This means that they last longer.

As the scrubbies are made from natural fibres, they are biodegradable. At the end of their useful life cut up, soak in water and put into your compost bin. They may take more than one season to decompose depending on the temperature of your compost bin.

I have 3 kits available: washing up kit ( 2 thin and a medium scrubby), cleaning kit ( 1 medium and 1 thick scrubby) and the starter kit ( one of each scrubby).

I started out crocheting jute washing up scrubbies, because I was fed up with the green plastic scrubby on the yellow sponge getting easily clogged with bits, not lasting very long and ending up in land fill.
