About Small Purple Hedgehog

Small Purple Hedgehog

I love to crochet.

Hi. My name is Angela. I started this shop back several years ago. I wanted to sell the things I designed and crocheted. Some are accessories, some are novelty items. I was particularly pleased when I designed a dragon. I now have an increasing faimily of them.

I was taught to crochet by my Nana when I was about 6, although I now have no memory of learning. I do remember making tiny baby clothes in sewing thread and the smallest hook for my dolls house dolls. Unfortunately, I can't work with cotton and hooks that fine anymore.

I stopped crocheting in my late teens, trained as a teacher, taught, married and had a son, became a Special Needs co-ordinator in a mainstream school. I remember crocheting a baby jacket for my niece about 22 years ago. Then my world fell apart. I became very light sensitive. I was able to carry on teaching using grey paper and wearing a hat indoors. Awful, awful days. Had my daughter. My eyes started to slowly improve. 5 years ago I started crocheting items I designed for the Rochester Country Market.

One day I was asked to make a blobfish. Character mushrooms came next and interesting tea cosies, then dragons. I found out about Folksy and opened a shop. I had to stop working in school 7 years ago. Using a computer makes my eyes very sore and I could no longer keep up with all the paperwork required.
My house is full of boxes of yarn and stock. The sofa, where I sit, is surrounded by my WIPs. I frequently have an item I'm making whilst watching TV, another to crochet when I have time during the day/nothing to watch on the telly. And an idea I'm trying out. Some ideas get finished, others fall by the wayside.
My husband is endlessly patient with the boxes and my son and more particularly my daughter are my models.
Last year I started to reuse my 60 year old Singer Sewing machine. With it I mainly make eco items and face masks.
