An elegant small stoneware bowl showing variations of colour reflecting the melting and downward flow of the glaze, its thickness and its interaction with the clay minerals and the iron oxide decoration. The orange brown streaks derive from brush-applied iron oxide decoration. This wheel thrown bowl will be perfect for display in any domestic or commercial setting. Alternatively, it can be used for hot or cold food with the decoration providing a finishing surprise when emptied, an imprinted face. The bowl was thrown with a UK stoneware and after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. The bowl is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 7cm tall and 13cm wide. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9020
I really enjoy the whole process of throwing and shaping functional bowls. There is plenty of scope for freedom of expression with regard to form and there is an upper surface for interesting flow patterns of the glaze. When the bowl is turned over textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P will be seen. The bowl was fired with a rutile blue glaze that transparent cream where thin. The underside is lightly glazed to give a transparent tan near the foot with decorative pale blue runs down from the rim. This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites inquisitive handling. Equally it could be directly functional for cooking or serve as a cereal bowl
