Octopi appear in the folklore of many different cultures.
In New Zealand mythology the giant octopus “Te Wheke-a-Muturangi” was a monstrous beast that terrorised the coast. He ended up being killed by Kure the Navigator who cut off its tentacles with an adze after a massive battle. It’s name may be a reference to its tentacles reaching out across the ocean, a metaphor for numerous Pacific sea routes.

Earthenware fruit bowl, hand made from terracotta. Decorated in underglaze oxides with a giant octopus motif.
Diametre is 31cm, 7cm depth.
Postage and packing is included in the price. If posted this item will be very well padded!
