A bespoke letterpress press print – signed and numbered from a limited artist edition of only 10 and as each is printed by hand they are all slightly different.

Title is '2020 by Four'

Dimensions of the area with text in is 57 x 30cm and the antique wooden type used is 5cm high in black ink. Overall paper size is 70x50cm but could be produced larger or smaller. This looks great in a black frame 75x55cm external size for an extra cost of £22.

In these digital times there is something magical and very satisfying in hand creating printed objects using analogue methods that were used from the 1500’s up until the late 1900’s. The physical size and design of wooden type limits the printed possibilities, but these limitations give the motivation to re-interpret the medium to produce work that was never conceived when the type was made around 100 years ago.

As each is handprinted to order please allow a few days to produce and for delivery.

2020 was such an extraordinary year with so much hardship and so many restrictions and misery. I wanted to mark thsi using the medium of letterpress juxtaposing it with the spelling of words so modern and new that it was pretty unlikely the medium had been used to print some of them before.
I liked the symmetry and restriction of using just four letter words.
