This cute avocet ceramic ornament would be the perfect gift for friends and family.

A lovely a reminder of coastal holidays or to provide the finishing touch on shelves and ledges in your home.

Each seabird is hand-painted with the fresh cheeky design inspired by my love of the sea and the traditional British seaside. Cut out from a slice of white earthenware clay, mounted on its own ceramic and wire stand, dried, fired in a potter's kiln, then dipped in glaze and illustrated individually with ceramic colours, the design fixed in the final firing.

It is about 7cm tall and measures about 10cm from its beak to the tip of its tail.

My lovely dad was a keen birdwatcher so we spent a lot of days over on the east coast which is about two hours from our home here in Northamptonshire, I have memories of him pointing out Avocets and other wading birds, usually in absolutely freezing, biting wind! These chaps are a happy memory of a lovely childhood. I'm particularly pleased with the little bent wire stand evoking the dipping action of the birds as they burrow into the sand to find food. Hope you like him too.
