Formerly 'Buttons, Beads and Blanket Stitch'.
My work predominantly comprises hand cut and burnished lino prints, with sewing playing an occasional part.
Whether working in print or in stitch, I am inspired by the natural world and the people around me, with words/text frequently playing an integral part.

I love to use my original designs in a variety of ways. My hand-stitched robin, sparrow and blue tit can not only be seen as this three bird hanging, but as individual hand-embellished decorations and also in 2D form, on my Garden Birds giclee print and greetings card.

Full description
The basis of this hanging is a digital reproduction of one of my original hand-stitched pieces.
I hand-stitched the original garden birds piece onto a natural, unbleached calico, comprising black chain stitched outlines with additional blocks of colour in embroidery thread, also added by hand. This original was then reproduced onto a beautiful neutral coloured linen by the team at Woven Monkey.
Each of the three printed birds was then hand-embellished with black French knot eyes, additional areas of chain stitching and with a little smattering of sequins.
The reverse of each of the birds - blue tit, sparrow and robin - is a warm cream pure wool felt. Front and reverse pieces have been hand-stitched together in a cream thread and lightly padded with a synthetic toy stuffing.
A white ribbon hanging loop is stitched between the linen and felt of the blue tit. Little legs of ribbon join the birds together, with tiny bells hanging from the robin’s ribbon legs.
The blue tit and robin measure approx. 8.5cm diagonally from head to tail tip with the sparrow slightly larger at 9cm, with all birds measuring approx. 4cm across at their widest points. The whole decoration measures approx. 22cm from the top of the hanging ribbon to the bottom of the little bell feet.
This item is a decoration, not a toy.
