Scandinavian wooded spreader hand carved with axe and knife from Sycamore I cut down last year when doing track side maintenance at a local railway.

Handmade, it’s truly a one off and feels so tactile in the hand, it’s smooth finish is achieved by the razor sharpness of the knife blade. To keep it looking good for years to come, it has 10 layers of food safe oil rubbed into the grain.

You can wash it in hot soapy water with the rest of your dishes, I wouldn’t recommend using a dishwasher and it can cause the wood to swell and crack. To keep it looking good every so often give it a rub over with your favourite oil.

You can use it for spreading just about anything, butter, jam, marmalade, anything you can think of.

I first carved one of these spreaders at SpoonFest, a festival where carvers from all over the world get to gather to carve items using just and axe and a knife.

I was in a glass lead le Anya, a Swedish carver who was taking the class. Taking a log, cleaving it, and carving it with axe and knife, I still use it everyday and love the memories it gives me.

So I thought I would make another and put it on here so someone else can have the experience using this warm wooden tactile spreader rather than a cold steel impersonable knife.
