A textured stoneware bowl with blue, blue green and blue grey colours that are due to variations of glaze thickness. The bowl was thrown with a UK stoneware and shaped octagonal while still soft. After biscuit firing the glaze was applied in several layers on the inner rim and fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. It is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 6cm tall and 22cm wide. The bottom is stamped with my seal, the letter P, and an identity number 9843
I really enjoy the whole process of throwing, shaping, texturing and decorating bowls. The underside is more lightly glazed to give a transparent blue-green near the foot. The bowl was fired with a blue glaze that is punctuated with rich brown streaks of brush-applied iron oxide. The outer wall shows stamped organisms swimming through a hazy blue sea. This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or it could be directly functional for serving green salad.
