The bowl was flambe glazed in homage to my long-term interest in Oriental, Song Dynasty porcelain and the technique of firing copper red glazes in a kiln with a low oxygen level. This bowl would make a personal statement displayed on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites conversation and handling. Equally it could be directly functional for serving breakfast cereals or fruit.

Full description

A red flambe, sang-de-beouf glaze on a shallow porcelain bowl. The glaze is transparent red and white where thin. There is blue-purple flambe inside and the glaze on the rim is transparent with the white porcelain showing through. The underside is very dark red. The bowl was thrown with a UK porcelain and, after biscuit firing and glazing the piece was fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. It measures approximately 6cm tall and 16cm wide and is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9890.
