Description

A blue porcelain bowl with colour variations reflecting the melting and flow of the glaze over and into the stamped markings. The glaze is transparent where thin around the rim and the stamped central hare. Where the glaze is thicker it is a strong blue and grey blue where thickest. This wheel thrown bowl is perfect for display, potpourri or showing off fruit; satsumas would create an eye-catching contrast. The bowl was made with a UK porcelain and after biscuit firing the glaze was applied in several layers. It was then fired to 1300C to make it impermeable and very durable. This bowl is food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe and measures approximately 6cm tall and 16cm wide. The bottom is impressed with my seal, the letter P, and its identity number 9891

Inspiration

I really enjoy the whole process of throwing and shaping bowls. When the bowl is turned over textural decoration, an individual stamped pot number and my personal mark, a small letter P will be seen. The underside is more lightly glazed to give a transparent blue-green at the foot. The bowl was fired with a blue glaze that pools inside to grey-blue around a hareimprint. This bowl would make a personal statement on a table or shelf with or without contents and invites inquisitive handling. Equally it could be directly functional for potpourri or serving food.
