I’ve been working with glass for over 20 years. Ever since I first picked up my chosen glass and glass cutter, I’ve been hooked. I am fascinated by the properties of glass, the array or colours and the processes that that can be used to create different effects. There is always something new to learn and new tools and materials to invest in. It really is addictive!
What I especially love about working with glass are the colours. From crystal clear to shimmery dichroic to opaque pure blocks of colour that will never fade or dull.

Full description
Fused glass freestanding piece in an ash wooden base. I have used different tones of green in my fused glass panel inspired the wonderful knarled old trees that I see whilst walking my dog. The tree trunk is made from sheet brass, which has reacted in the kiln so its covered in thousands of bubbles, giving a unique aged wood effect. This looks lovely either on a window sill with light coming through it or on a mantelpiece. This piece would make a lovely gift for a nature lover.
To make it, firstly, I have have hand cut brass sheet into a tree shape. I have then cut 2 rectangles of transparent art glass the same shape and size. l've placed the brass tree in between the 2 layers of transparent glass and fused it slowly overnight. Once completely cooled, I have then added glass leaves and coloured and dichroic dots which I have made previously to give some added detail to the design. A second firing is done overnight the next day to tack fuse the dots onto the design, so that they stand proud of the glass, giving it a 3D effect. I have then fused the whole piece onto a larger sheet of glass. Finally, I have placed the tree panel into an ash wood stand which allows the panel to stand up. The panel is removable for cleaning.
