Although not suitable for fine bindings, I was determined to explore other book forms tree bark could be used for. I like to find a use for materials that are often overlooked or are considered to be unsuitable. I found this tree bark on East Hill nr Ottery St. Mary, East Devon.

Full description
This hand bound journal was made by traditional methods, the paper was made and torn by hand and then stitched. The covers are made from Scotts Pine Bark, which has been strengthened and waterproofed and then waxed. This bark was quite a challenge to strengthen as it is built of of layers and tended to flake.
The paper is handmade Lokta with lengths of silk thread embedded in the paper, so may not 'take' fountain pen ink too well (may bleed)- but should be fine with Biro or pencil, charcoal
Dimensions of book: 11 cm x 17 cm x 10 cm.

The Bark covers were found on East Hill, Near Ottery St. Mary, East Devon
