I once lived in a house in France which was surrounded by fields of gold as far as you could see. Tournesol. Follow the sun. As the season stretched they would dry and turn brown until they dropped their heads like tired, wizened old men. But in high summer they were vibrant and flashy, green and gold against a blue Poitou-Charentes sky. Along the verges were smaller strays that struggled to thrive in the parched ground but they were joyful nonetheless.
This painting was started with a dip pen in acrylic ink and completed with watercolours.
