Full description
This stoneware fired pinch pot is made by hand using black clay chosen for it's depth of colour and smooth texture. Porcelain slip is painted on the interior and a sharp tool is then used to scratch away the slip leaving a pattern. This age old technique is called sgraffito. The exterior is left raw and unglazed to show the texture of the clay to its fullest. The sgraffito interior has been gazed with a shiny transparent glaze.
The pinch pot base is fully rounded with no flat surface, but it is weighted to keep upright. It is made like this so the onlooker can fully appreciate it's curved and voluptuous form.
