I had long wanted to go to collect seaglass from Seaham beaches. The glass that was collected was mostly very small pieces, too small to drill or use glue to attach bails. Not what I usually find and use. So I set out to source an affordable fillable locket to show off the glass, and this heart shaped locket is one of the lockets made up.

Full description

Tiny pieces of seaglass have been collected from Seaham beach (Durham coast, UK) and used to fill this 3cm max length, silver coloured, clear faced, heart shaped locket. The locket is attached to a 22inch medium weight silver plated chain, making it an ideal length to show off the colours within the locket. The locket is hinged on one side and closes with a magnetic catch.

Seaham glass is known worldwide and provides a completely different type of glass to my usual beach. Much of the glass came from local bottle works, the largest being the Londonderry Bottleworks works that closed in the early 1921. At the end of the day's work, any molten glass remaining would be disposed off directly into the sea. The glass is mainly small pieces now, but is well rounded and hazed by the effects of the sea.

This will be sent out by large letter post.
