Hello, welcome to my shop!

When packing and sending my pots I try to reuse / recycle as much of my packaging material as possible. Any plastic used has been recycled from parcels sent to me.

I usually start making my xmas decorations in September and October. This year, during the amazing weather during lockdown, I started in May!!

Full description

A pit fired ceramic bauble.

The amazing marks on this porcelain bauble are created by firing the work in a pit. The decorations have been wrapped in copper wire, steel wire and salt soaked cloth; they are then placed in the pit with various organic materials including seaweed, banana skins, nut shells etc. The pit is then filled up with sawdust and wood and set alight. When the fire has reached enough temperature it creates a reaction with the organic materials and wire additions to produce the wonderful marks left on the clay. When it has burnt down it is covered and left overnight. It is incredibly exciting opening the pit the next day. Once unearthed, the decorations are scrubbed and then waxed to enhance the colours and seal the clay.

This listing is one bauble, the photos show both sides of the decoration.

Free UK postage

Dimensions: 10.5cm length, 7.5cm width, 10cm ribbon ( all measurements approx).

The bauble is not glazed, it has been finished with a micro-crystalline wax to seal the surface.

The decoration is flat.
