Here we have a wonderful old chess set design from the 1980's based upon CS Lewis's classic children's (and adults) book series The Chronicles of Narnia.
This Chess set celebrates the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe book (the 1st written but 2nd in the series) and features all of the main characters ( right down to the actual wardrobe itself ) from the book.
The Chess set is truly remarkable. The figurines are amazingly detailed and have been enhanced with artists oil paints and pigments to really show off all of the intricate carved lines and the character of the various pieces.
The set, as with all of the sets in our shop, has been handmade and hand painted. This set has been presented in an antique white and soft gold effect and has been gently aged effected to fit in nicely with the character of the chess pieces themselves.
This is a fairly substantial collection of Chessmen with the tallest piece (The Wardrobe) being 12 cm tall with a 4.5 cm base and the pawn (Mr Tumnus) being 7.5 cm tall with a 2.5 cm base.
I'm sure you will agree from look at the photos that this Chess is more than just eye catching, it is a thing of great beauty.
Alongside Mr Tumnus and the Wardrobe some of the featured characters in the set are Alsan, Lucy, Edmond, Peter, The White Witch to name a few.
It is a must for any fan of CS Lewis or the Chronicles of Narnia book series.
