Handmade Acorn Necklace in Lampwork Glass and Sterling Silver

Acorn measures approximately 13 mm by 21 mm
Chain finished with bolt clasp, apart from 29 inch chain which does not require fastening.
Acorns have long been considered a good luck charm in folklore, being a symbol of youth, health and prosperity. Every autumn I create a small collection of handmade glass acorn jewellery. Each acorn is unique.
I make my glass beads using a centuries old technique called lampworking (or flameworking). Using a propane and oxygen powered lampworking torch, rods of glass are heated to melting point and wrapped around a steel rod called a mandrel. Once the bead is complete it is soaked in a kiln at over 500 degrees celsius to strengthen the bead, and then cooled very slowly. No two handmade beads are identical, making each piece of jewellery unique.
