Full description

This fused glass dragonfly can be hung in a window as a sun catcher, or on a wall in your home or garden.

Entirely handmade in my small studio, it has pale straw coloured iridescent wings, which I painted with a delicate tracery of veins before it was fired in the kiln. The body is made from several nuggets of pale blue glass, which were pre-fired to give them a smooth rounded finish and then placed on a clear glass base. The thorax section is cut from a slightly different shade of pale blue glass, and for the bulbous eyes, I chose a pair of dark blue glass nuggets, which I had also previously fired. The whole piece was assembled and then fired to around 760 °C, which caused the glass to soften and fuse together, but not lose texture entirely.

The dragonfly pictured here is the one you will receive. It measures 12cm in length, with a wingspan of 16cm.

The dragonfly is supplied with beading wire threaded through a tiny hole drilled in the wing and I will also supply a couple of small plastic bumpers which you can stick on to stop it knocking against the wall.

Please note, that this is a delicate ornament and should be kept away from small children.
