Item details
A shrinkpot is carved by hollowing out a piece of freshly fallen boughwood. A disk of seasoned wood is popped into the hollow pot before it starts to dry and when it does, the pot shrinks onto the dry disc to form the base - hence shrinkpot!
When it has dried out with no cracks or splits (!) I add the fluting and bright paintwork.
A very old technique for making containers and vessels.
