These fragments of patterned pottery and china gather between the rocks and pebbles at low tide. Many of these pieces originate from the 1800’s and 1900’s, sometimes dating back to the Victorian and Regency eras when the nearby town of Kirkcaldy was at the heart of the Scottish pottery industry. Despite being smoothed by the Scottish waves for so long, the patterns and colours remains wonderfully vibrant and the transformative power of the sea ensures each fragment is entirely unique.

A framed mosaic using beautiful pieces of sea-worn antique blue & white beach pottery to create a lovely wave. The antique beach pottery washes up on the beautiful beaches in Anstruther, in the East Neuk of Fife in Scotland. Often featuring the famous 'willow' pattern, much of the pottery dates back to the Victorian era, when ceramic factories threw their 'seconds' into the sea and locals used to cast their broken pottery into the waves for good luck! The pottery has been gently worn smooth by the rough Scottish seas but the patterns and colours remain vibrant, a testament to the manufacturing processes of the time. I've included a photograph of the original willow pattern plate - I'm sure you'll recognise it!
A tiny fish made from silver plated wire has been added to finish the scene.
This original art comes in a wooden box frame and measures 23cm square - a little larger than my usual framed pieces!
