I was having a great time making little wild animals last year. Needlefelting is a very addictive craft and foxes have so much expression!
The background has been wet-felted by layering merino wool tops and felting them with hot water, soap and friction to create a solid base for the animal. Once dry, I can build up the shape of the animal by laying either Norwegian wool fibres or organic merino fibres on the background and stabbing or piercing the fibres repeatedly with a barbed needle. This compacts the fibres and allows me to develop that important 3D element which makes the animals stand out from their background and gives them their unique character. When I am happy with the shape I repeat the stabbing process, covering the surface with dyed merino fibres.
