I print each piece by hand to create beautifully individual work. I hope you like it!
I re-discovered my love of printmaking in 2013, having enjoyed learning some techniques at Art Foundation some time before. I soon realised my main passion was for lino printing and I began creating bold designs and looking at how texture affects my work.
I love all things retro and enjoyed researching colours that would be appropriate to use for this piece.

This print was inspired primarily by old flour sacks and retro advertising. The windmill relates to how the flour was made. The colours are taken from those popular in retro advertising and they were also used to decorate old flour sacks. The hessian used to print on is inspired directly by the flour sack itself and gives texture to the work. I enjoyed telling the story of the windmill in this print, creating movement with circular lines around the sails, contrasting with the relative stillness of the grass below.
The image itself measures 175x142mm. It is printed on to a piece of hessian measuring 207x145mm. It is worth noting that there is hardly any border around the edge of the image and that the small border is uneven.
This piece could be framed or hung with magnetic picture hangers or pegs to reveal the rustic edges.
It would make an attractive edition to the home of anyone who loves the countryside.
