In May and June I was having a bit of a needlefelting flurry, mainly making highland cattle and being really productive. Then I found this photo of a Vietnamese pot-bellied piglet and just had to do something about it! His markings are almost exactly like those of the wild boar piglets so he must be a bit of a throw-back!
I wet-felted the background in merino wool and tussah silk and then when it was dry I built up the shape of the piglet in organic merino wool using the photo for reference but a lot of imagination to get the 3D shape correct. I then coated the white wool base with dyed merino fibres, which takes a long time but it is the character of the animal and needs to be right! I love to profit from the 3D possibilities of needlefelting and I also like to creep over the edges of the mount, this time it's the tail that has escaped the confines of the straight edges.
