I found this beautiful, hand-embroidered picture in an antique shop a number of years ago and I hope that Jean C. (the skilful embroiderer) would not mind me removing the panel from behind the glass frame for the first time since 1946 in order to give it a new lease of life as a cushion panel!
The Courting Gentleman looks very chivalrous in his purple frock coat, checked grey breeches and flowered garden setting!

Full description
A beautiful Oxford Cushion made using a vintage hand-embroidered panel from 1946 signed in embroidery silk by 'Jean C'. It is teamed with a modern woven jacquard fabric 'Tiffany' in a Mulberry colourway.
The embroidered panel (18 x 20 cms) is framed using a Dark Damson jacquard ribbon and the Oxford border is defined using a mulberry coloured gimp, both from the London-based 'Hip Haberdasher' VV Rouleaux. The cushion opening on the rear is formed by a 36 cms mulberry coloured zip.
The cushion measures approximately 53 x 53 cms (including the Oxford border) and is filled with a 45 x 45 cms British-made feather pad to give a plump but soft cushion.
The individual embroidery stitches are in very good condition, given its age, and you can still see remnants of the blue outline drawing Jean used when embroidering her panel not long after the Second World War. There is only a little discolouration and ridging to the canvas background which, given it is 74 years old, is forgivable.
This is a unique, one-off design combining vintage and modern elements which would look beautiful on your mulberry or teal velvet sofa or to help dress your elegantly dark bed linen!
