A bright and cheerful badge or brooch suitable for a wide range of occasions from brightening a summer outfit to holding a scarf closed or decorating a bag. A bright badge is an excellent way to make a plain coat stand out from the crowd. The badge is in the shape of a strawberry, needle felted from Nepalese wool tops with details added in embroidery floss and a metal brooch pin stitched to the back. The texture of the wool is pleasingly soft and fuzzy to the touch, but the badge holds its shape perfectly.

I grew up in Fife, a hot spot for soft fruit production, and I love the vibrant colours of the strawberry set against the plant’s green leaves. Visits to the pick your own farms to crawl through the fields of straw searching for the ripest and juiciest fruits stand out vividly in my memory, alongside the tyranny of the garden strawberry patch in the years when it was just too successful and we seemed to pick and clean and freeze and live and breathe strawberries for weeks! I remember carrying baskets of strawberries to the hospital when my little sister was born and my mum sharing them with the midwives. And ever since strawberries have tended to feature in the birthday cakes I have made for my sister, and to hold a special place in my affections.
