A part real and part imaginary butterfly hanging. A new line of butterflies as we have so many in the garden this spring, this truly is a piece of lock down handmade!
This blue butterfly has the tracery painted in black, though in real life it has white edges to its wings so I thought I would mix the two.
Designed and handmade at my home studio in Cheshire, England. I start each design by drawing from nature before starting to plan how the piece will work in glass.
My butterfly is made from 4 pieces of thin glass. To this I paint with enamels and add ground coloured glass and wire. Finally the surface is over-glazed and fired in a kiln.
This is the beginning of a new journey using techniques perfected in the garden birds. Clearly, my World is shrinking but I am finding beauty and inspiration in what is around me!
The first pictures are the butterfly hanging from an antennae, these are trapped in the glass so very strong. The following pictures show the work flat with a UK 20p coin for scale. The last images are angled to catch the light. This particular butterfly looks good with the light coming through him.
His wing span is 19 cm across and 11 cm deep which includes the wire.
He would make a great gift for any girls bedroom or nature lover.
