Gannets are by far my favourite bird, I utterly love them.
I spent hours as a youngster perched on a cliff amongst the gorse above a rock colony watching them in wonder. It was a privileged close view point.
There are no colonies where I live now but we do get regular fly passes. They always travel from east to west, usually in a prevailing west wind, when they stop by to fish. Sometimes incredibly close to the shoreline. On one such occasion I stood out on a promontory photographing them, from which I drew studies. This card is an impression of the exhilarating excitement we get when there’s a shoal in the bay & the gannets arrive to fish, and some of my favourite views we get, taken from those studies.
I never get over how incredibly white they are, which becomes particularly accentuated when a cloud darkens the water to a sea deep turquoise, but doesn’t obscure the sun from reflecting its brilliance in the the gannets plumage.

It's very hard to convey, in a photograph, the truly beautiful physical quality of the ink & it's colour on this gorgeously soft-to-touch paper - very tactile!
The colours are a darker blue & sea deep turquoise - The photos disguise the soft matt quality of the paper & ink
Cards will vary slightly due to the nature of hand production making each card unique & original
