Full description

Pewter Green Man of the Oaks original metal wall art. Green Man image in fine English pewter. Traditional repousse work pewter artwork by British artist Sharon Dickinson.

Jack in the Green is a common feature of old English Churches. There are many references to the Green Man and Jack of the Green dating back to pre -history.

This representation shows him him emerging from among fronds of magical oak leaves.

This unique work in English pewter is not stamped, hammered or cast but took many long hours of elaborate hand tooling.

I work the pewter sheet from the back pressing against a leather pad with a stylus, when I am happy with the blocked out image I work the front against plate glass to give a hard edge and definition to the piece. Once complete the artwork is carefully cleaned and coated with a patinaing agent which darkens it, what follows is my least favourite job - lots of elbow grease -hand polishing and buffing the surface of the metal to bring out the highlights and textures.

Every time I finish a new work I find myself quite amazed at what I have just achieved - it is as though each artwork starts as part of me but by the end of the various processes there is something wholly unique and individual that exists in its own right.................

This plaque measures approximately 8 inches square, and comes mounted in archival quality cream mount board 16 inches square ready for you to frame.
