Full description

Magical pewter hare mirror decorated with oak leaves and moon design. This hand tooled pewter mirror features a running hare along the bottom. His body is richly decorated with oak leaves and acorns. At the top of the mirror is a mystical moon peeking out from behind clouds.

The hare is native to Britain and folklore abounds with stories about them. Hares hunker down low in sets in the grass often startling and surprising you when out walking. Their sudden leaps have often been associated with dawns, new months, and new beginnings.

An old tradition is to say RABBITS on the last evening of the month and HARES on the first morning of the month!

The mirror is approximately 16 inches high and 4 inches across the base, at the top is a steel wire handle to enable you to hang it from a hook or nail in the wall. My mirrors also look great suspended from a curtail rail with a length of ribbon.

I cut curvy organic shapes from mirror glass and cut the pewter to fit the shape. I then tool the design working from both the front and back of the metal. When I am finished the metal is patinated to darken it and then hand polished to bring up the highlights in the pewter.

Modern pewter does not contain any lead and will keep its shine without the need for regular polishing.

The mirror is useful as well as decorative being quite large enough to see to shave of make up.

A really unusual gift for someone who as everything.

Al my pewter and mirror glass can be recycled.
