The Golden Whale is an origional design made up of 6 layers of hand cut paper.

The whale is hand cut from a single sheet of gold shimmer paper which catches the light beautifully making the whale stand out against it's blue sea backing.

The golden whale layer is floated against the glass above 6 layers of hand cut abstract blue paper waves. They are framed with a gap between each layer adding dimensions within the art work and allowing it to play with the light and cast beautiful shadows.

This piece is created completely by hand paper is cut away using scalpels to leave the design behind. It is an intricate, precise and time consuming art form but one which is also very rewarding. Each piece is unique and one of a kind. The design concept is of a limited run, only 10 of these pieces will be created this is number 3 /10 and comes signed and numbered.

The papercut comes framed in a 28cm x 33cm white box frame, which measures 3cm and is suitable for wall mounting or table top display.

This design is part of a range of golden sketch animals. The gold lends itself to this kind of work because it has such an interesting glow to it when it catches the light.

The whale was one of my summer designs, I'm always left thinking about the sea when the weather picks up.
