This is a new quilt I have made using a beautiful vintage floral fabric dating from the 1920s or 30s.

The quilt is made from 3 layers of fabric, the lovely floral vintage cotton on the top, new cream cotton sheeting on the rear and new cotton batting (padding) in the middle. It is edged in new raspberry cotton binding. The quilt is lightly quilted in vertical lines, this holds the 3 pieces of fabric together nice and smooth so they don’t bunch up when it is being used or in the washing machine. The binding is machine stitched through all three layers and the hand slip stitched in place on the rear. I think it looks really pretty.

The quilt is almost square at 168cm x 169cm. It is perfect for a double bed or as a snuggle throw.

The fabric was my inspiration for making the quilt, it is such a lovely vintage find. The colours are lovely and bright yet have that faded country house look at the same time. It is a nice crisp cotton, originally a door curtain so a nice weight without being too heavy. It was just far too pretty to not be reused for something. When I bought the raspberry binding for a different project and saw it next to the turquoise and all the flowers it just looked perfect, that’s when I decided it would make a lovely quilt.

The padding in the middle of the vintage fabric and the backing fabric is pure cotton. This makes it warm and soft but not heavy or bulky. It is lightly quilted to hold the 3 fabrics together. The binding is also cotton and is hand stitched. It is machine washable at 40 degrees and fits in a normal family sized washer.
